I’m sure back in the day Great Yarmouth was a thriving seaside resort with much to see and do. It has 15 miles of coastline and is a substantial part of the Broads National Park. Unfortunately like many other UK seaside towns they have lost their sparkle. Loss of the fishing industry and the recession has led to much unemployment. That said, I’m sure the many thousands of visitors that holiday there during the summer enjoy themselves at the many attractions in and around the area.
We stopped off here on our way back to Oxford mainly to meet up with friends and family. Shaun and Billie are now wardens (managers) at the Great Yarmouth Racecourse site. We worked with them at Brecon, Wales, had a great time and have kept in touch. We had a lovely evening with them reminiscing about Brecon.
It was also great to see the dogs again. Betty the Border Collie, Peggy a Shiatsu and Bruce was there on holiday! One day we took Betty the border collie for a walk along the beach into Caister stopping off for a beer on our way back.
Our niece Hollie and her partner Tom live nearby so we spent some time with them. We had a nice trip into Norwich one day and a couple of nice meals out. We also got the bus into Norwich for a day of sightseeing which was nice as the sun was shining and Norwich is a beautiful city. The cathedral is well worth a visit.
Next stop is back in Oxford where we will both be working again to save up for our winter trip to Spain via Germany!
