25th March 2014 Work has begun!

Before setting off for Cornwall last Thursday we had to finish off loading the trailer and getting the van ready for travelling which was still at our friends small campsite in Sidlesham (Caravan Club CL Fieldgate).

We had been to Oxford for our last visit to see friends and family and on our return we were amazed at the progress that had been made to the site. The first thing we noticed was that there was a small digger that had been clearing and levelling the site. The usual bonfire was well alight and Al was busy feeding it with anything he could get his hands on that would burn!

We left the lovely Al, Isabel and Hamish (our nephew) at nine o’clock in the morning and drove in convoy (Angela in the smart car) the 5 hours down to where we worked last season at Tregurrian CCC. We had a couple of stops on the way and were able to talk to each other via our walkie talkies set to voice activation so hands free and safe.

We are at Tregurrian for 4 days work to cover while the managers go to Coventry to attend a conference.

We had a nice greeting from Paul & Angi (big hug followed by a coffee) and a good catch up before we got set up on our pitch.

We were not working until Saturday so Friday we went into Newquay for a mooch and Fish ‘n’ Chips via a quick look at Watergate Bay.

It has been nice covering for Paul & Angi as it has been a nice and gentle ease into working again. Remember we have not worked since last September!

We have not been busy with campers and apart from the daily cleaning routine I did manage to get the grass cut in Bayview on Sunday. Just as well because the weather since then has been wet and windy.

On Monday we had the mobile tyre fitter from Kwik Fit come to site to put 2 new rear tyres. What a great service it was. I was looking online Friday for some prices and found the option to have them fitted at a date and time that suited me. The engineer called me half an hour before and was very quick and efficient. Well done Kwik Fit, I will definitely use them again.

Tomorrow after a visit to Newquay Dental Practice for our annual check up we leave for Veryan CCC. This is where we will be working until Nov 3rd, the longest season for us to date.

About Dean

Angela and I decided that there was more to life than working hard to keep up the payments on the mortgage, to pay the gas, electric, phone bills etc. etc. SO............ In 2008 we sold our house, I initially took a year off (Unpaid) and Angela handed in her notice! We bought a motorhome and set off for a year of travelling! This was the best thing we had done in our lives (Apart from getting married) and we have no regrets. During the year I managed to secure a redundancy package which felt very strange. Almost sad as I had worked for the same company for 19 years (BT). It was always our plan to have a whole year off before thinking about the 'W' word. We began applying to the Camping and Caravanning Club (CCC) for the position of Holiday site assistants in August 2009. After the interview, work experience and induction we were finally given a contract at the CCC site in Inverewe (Scotland). Our plan is to work through the summer in the UK then head to Europe to overwinter before coming back to work the following summer season. Hopefully these few words and our blog will inspire others to get off the hamsters wheel and see that there is more to live than having a house and material things. A cliche I know but this is not a rehearsal, life is too short!!! Since our first contract in Scotland we have worked a winter contract in Oxford (never again!) not Oxford but a winter contract. Hereford for two years, living in a yurt for one! And Cornwall. In between our working we have also travelled a bit. Hopefully this website will give you an insight into our alternative lifestyle. Get out there and live the dream!
