When we were told on the Monday that we were out of a job our Area Manager, Martyn was excellent. He kept us informed about what was going on and came back to us within the day, to offer us a post on the CCC site down in Tregurrian, Cornwall. It is about four miles outside of Newquay and is surrounded by beautiful beaches and coastline.
We fulfilled a couple of days work at Hereford while trying to pack up our belongings, then after a leaving (cheese) party with Brian and Glenys we set off on the 1st May to head down south. Dean drove the motorhome and trailer while I brought up the rear in Smarty Pants. It was a straightforward journey albeit long, but when we were within ten miles of the site we started to relax as the scenery is absolutely stunning. It felt like we were back in the Highlands of Scotland, with white beaches and sunshine!
Paul and Angi (site managers) met us when we arrived and after a brew showed us around the site. We were chatting for ages, but eventually got settled in the ‘van and ate more cheese! The next day we sorted our pitch out, bought some provisions and then took a trip into Padstow. It was absolutely heaving, as they had put on a May Day festival the day before and there were still some stragglers left in the town. As you walked past many of the pubs you could hear men singing, and they were even singing outside as the pubs could not accommodate any more people.
We spoiled ourselves and had a lovely ice cream by the harbour, watching the speed boats and ferry coming and going.
On our return Dean cooked some prawns on the barbecue and we had them in black bean sauce, washed down with some lovely beers Richard bought us back from USA – cheers!
