In aid of a local Down Syndrome charity, every year there is a sponsored swim by campers on Boxing Day morning. Despite the weather taking a disappointing turn for the worse today, sixteen brave souls took to the Mar Menor and swam/walked back to cheers of encouragement from the watching crowds. We’d gone down to the beach with Brian and Kate, who wanted us to experience a drink called Asiatico (I’ve made the spelling up…), a coffee/alcoholic beverage that is very sweet but a definite tonic if you’re cold! Duly fortified, we took a walk along the beach to the salinas together while the weather slowly improved.
We left them about 2pm to go and get our part of the Tapas bargain ready, as we’d been invited round to Al & Isobel’s for the afternoon to have a tapas party. A ‘team meeting’ had taken place at 10am to decide who was making what, with Al in charge of the fish and barbecue.
Our collective tapas were amazing! We had tempura battered prawns, sardines grilled on the barbecue, Peperonata (stewed peppers, tomatoes, garlic, olive oil..) beetroot and potato salad with coriander, garlic potatoes, spicy couscous with nuts and raisins, the list goes on…
Al & Isobel’s friends joined us (Derek and Carol) as did a lovely lady called Dee, along with Hamish (Scottie dog) and Lucy (Westie). The dogs stole the show really as they’re both gorgeous and we kept passing Lucy round for cuddles.
Hamish, being a boy, didn’t want all the fuss so he stuck with Al and got loads of attention all to himself. Al is very camera shy, but Hamish loved the limelight!
Having stuffed ourselves with lovely food and wine, discussed everything and nothing and had a great laugh in the process, it eventually got too cold to be outside so we all took our leave and headed back to our own ‘vans. We had a thoroughly brilliant day again, and were looking forward to a day of mooching about tomorrow…
