The last few days involved a trip to VanBitz based in Taunton, Somerset to have some remedial work done on the ‘van.
On Monday we met Bill and Lynn again, the owners of the campsite who gave us a great welcome. They were keen to impress on us that we needed to take some time to relax and recharge our batteries. It was a lovely gesture as it gives us some breathing space to get everything sorted and to catch up on some much needed sleep.
We got the awning set up too and with Paul’s help got a level (yes, level!) base which will be a first! This season will be the first time we’ve been able to use it as extra sitting area, rather than storage sat on mud.
We didn’t realise how tired we were after all the trials and tribulations of being in Oxford. It felt as if we’d gone backward and were back in the old lifestyle we’d worked so hard to leave only 18 months before. A valuable lesson has been learnt though and we’re already planning our travels for next winter!
However, no sooner had we arrived at this lovely site when we had to travel down to Taunton for some unexpected repairs. It’s a nice place to visit though and the campsite attached to VanBitz, Cornish Farm (www.cornishfarm.com) is lovely. The walk into Taunton takes about half an hour but most of it is along a stream so you forget the time. We were able to get our Mothers Day cards and presents sorted out there which was a real bonus.
Our return back was fairly uneventful, although we did make a slight detour into Wales (about 15 miles out of our way) but we made a quick correction and got back on track! Between the two of us we need to work on our communication skills 😉
